iA visit to Buenavista  does not take more than l 2 hours by car from the city of Santa Cruz. 

For People who puts a bit of attention on the atmosphere of this place may realize that the air or oxygen over here most of the time is very healthy. And the spectacular view of the Amboro Park on clear days is an ideal complement.

Among the main pleasure activities that can be perform from Buenavista are trips of one, two or more days to the Amazon of Amboro National park

The north side of Amboro National park has more than one entrance and from BuenaVista you can go to any of them, although not all of them are recommended.

Private natural reserves also offer you the possibility of trekking in secondary forest doing bird watching and mammals observation. Also you can visit some plantation such as Macadamia, Coffee, Cacao and others species of plants. Or perhaps the visitors prefer to know more about the artisanal process of the grain of Coffee or Cacao.

Another interesting activities in the nature nearby or in the village of Buenavista are; Quinta Curucusi y un Acuario Ecalar bastante roganizado y didactico con muchos peces debidamente clasificados.

In BuenaVista a visit to the Swiss Cheese Plant known as Queseria Suiza is also possible. All these activities can be very interesting.

This town is the capital c of the province Ichilo in the department of Santa Cruz in eastern Bolivia. It is situated on a hill of 400 meters above sea level which gives mild climate. It is about 100 kilometers northwest of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. It was founded by the priest José Casas on February 26, 1723, after the Jesuit Father Juan de Montenegro established a community in those territories.

Buenavista has an annual rainfall of 2,563 mm, with a relative humidity of 80%. Its climate is tropical humid. July is the coldest part of the year and November the warmest month.

Departure from Santa Cruz

 
The journey to observe wildlife such as monkeys, sloths, and other animals in their natural habitat begins early in the morning from Santa Cruz.
 
Tour Description
At 07:30 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel and begin the journey to Buena Vista, the main entrance to Amboró National Park. The trip follows a paved road heading north from Santa Cruz.
 
This 100 km journey takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
 
On the way, we will pass by several towns without stopping:
 
Warnes (23 km from Santa Cruz) – Known for its industries and as the location of Viru Viru International Airport, the most important airport in Bolivia.
 
Montero (21 km from Warnes) – Home to Guabirá, Bolivia’s largest sugar mill, surrounded by sugarcane plantations.
 
Portachuelo – After crossing the Friendship Bridge over the Piraí River, we enter this town, known for its native inhabitants, delicious pork sausages, and baked goods.
 
The final stretch to Buena Vista is 30 km from Portachuelo.
 
From this point, you can see the mountains of Amboró National Park, a vast natural reserve covering over half a million hectares of Amazon rainforest. These mountains attract rain and serve as the birthplace of many rivers and streams.
 
Arriving in Buena Vista
Upon arrival, we will take a short break to enjoy locally produced coffee.
 
In the main square, you can observe several mahogany trees (Swietenia macrophylla), prized for their high-quality wood.
 
Jungle Walk and Wildlife Observation
We then head to a nearby area where we may spot mammals such as:
 
Monkeys
 
Sloths (Bradypus tridactylus)
 
Capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris)
 
Rare birds like the Hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin)
 
Please note: We cannot guarantee wildlife sightings.
 
Depending on the terrain and weather conditions, we may walk along a dirt road or through the forest.
 
We will also visit the Surutú River, which forms the natural boundary of Amboró National Park.
 
Technically, crossing the Surutú River from Buena Vista means entering the park’s Integrated Management Natural Area (ANMI). This region includes private properties and communities, some of which still have well-preserved forests, allowing for additional nature walks.
 
Hiking Conditions
In the rainy season, trails may be muddy or flooded.
 
We will take paths alongside the main trail to maximize wildlife and bird sightings.
 
A private nature reserve near Buena Vista features secondary forest and some patches of primary forest, offering excellent opportunities for hiking and even overnight camping or lodging.
 
Return to Santa Cruz
At 4:00 PM, we begin our journey back to Santa Cruz.
 
Upon arrival, we will drop you off at your hotel, marking the end of our Buena Vista tour.
