El parque regional Lomas de Arena

fue creado el 7 de Septiembre del año 1990. Decreto Supremos  N.- 22911

Tiene una superficier de 13.326 hectareas o 133.26 Km2

El parque cuenta con propiedades privadas dedicas a la ganaderia y como lugares de descanso para los propietarios que vivien y trabajan en la ciudad

Existe un centro de interpretacion con la infractrutura necesaria para ser el lugar de incio de alguna actividad eco-turistica o didactica. Pero lamentablente no funciona regularmente.

Las principales actividades que se realizan en las lomas de arena o sand dunes, son caminatas y/o sandbording.

Es lamentable es descuido por el cuidado del manejo de los desecho, como ser el platico y las latas de cerveza que que se pueden encontrar a  arriba en las lomas de arena. Muchos visitantes de la ciudad no tienen la educacion necesario para saber manejar o colocar estas botellas de platico y otros en un basurero o llevarlas de vuelta.

Tampoco existen suficientes basureros ni recomendaciones escritas que se entreguen a los visitantes sobre este aspecto. Es asi que los extranjeros que visitan Las Lomas de Arena o Sand Dunes se llevan un pobre referente de cuidado de este parque regional.

La principal atraccion de este destino turistico  solia ser la inmensa laguna que existia en el centro de las principales lomas de arena. Pero ahora  en lugar del agua solo quedan pampas y arbustos.

Durante los tours a las Lomas de Arena, acampar es permitido en el parque. Pero los visitantes tienen que traer su propio equipo de camping  y avisar al ingreso a los guardaparques para que ellos le digan donde es el lugar de camping. 

Esta prohibido la caza o pesca y hacer fogatas. Todo los desechos generados deben ser sacados

Es parque regional esta a  17 km del centro de la ciudad de Santa Cruz..Pero es necesario tener en cuenta que los ultimos 6 o 7 kms are very sandy.

Muy cerca de las mismas lomas de arena existe un tipo hotel o lodge. Este lugar no funciona regularmente.

El lugar es lindo y nada más. No cuenta con una infraestructura para el turista. Cerquita a las lomas hay un hotel que está totalmente descuidado y sin mantenimiento. Pero puede ser una buena opción para el almuerzo y si está funcionando la piscina, para refrescarse en un dia de calor. Pero, es mejor llevarse todo lo que necesites…como ser agua, sanduiches etc. Está bien como para conocer pero al mismo tiempo lo veo medio peligroso ya que no hay policias en el lugar y ya he escuchado de muchos asaltos a turistas ahí mismo.
