TIPNIS (Territorio Indígena y Parque Nacional Isiboro Sécure) is a protected area located in Bolivia, known for its rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. This national park, established in 1965, spans across the departments of Beni and Cochabamba, covering approximately 12,000 square kilometers.
TIPNIS is home to various ecosystems, including tropical rainforests, savannas, and wetlands, which support a wide array of flora and fauna, some of which are endemic to the region. Additionally, the park is inhabited by indigenous communities such as the Moxeño, Yuracaré, and Chimane peoples, who have coexisted with the natural environment for centuries.
Despite its ecological and cultural significance, TIPNIS has faced numerous challenges, including deforestation, illegal logging, and controversial infrastructure projects that threaten its integrity. Conservation efforts continue to be crucial in preserving this vital natural and cultural sanctuary.
